Tempurpedic Reviews: Features, Pricing, And Comparison

TempurPedic reviews

Did your memory foam mattress let you down? Every memory foam mattress starts out feeling like the best purchase you’ve ever made, but eventually, it begins to feel less comfortable.

Tempur-Pedic took the world by quiet storm back in 1992. If you haven’t seen the television commercials, then you’ve undoubtedly seen the magazine adverts, product placements, and the prominent place these mattresses receive in almost every furniture store.

The Tempur-Pedic mattress is the gold-standard of memory foam mattresses. Rather than sticking a layer of foam on top and calling it a “memory foam mattress,” the manufacturer developed a proprietary foam and technology to create a full foam mattress that works all night.

With the gold star rating comes a golden price tag. There’s no way around it: Tempur-Pedic mattresses are some of the most expensive pieces of furniture you can buy.

Looking for a memory foam mattress and aren’t sure if the Tempur-Pedic is truly worth it? Keep reading for more on Tempurpedic reviews.

COMPARISON TABLE

What Is Tempur-Pedic?

Tempur-Pedic

Tempur-Pedic mattresses are a staple of every mattress store both online and offline. Over the past three decades, the brand transformed from a revolution in sleep to the dominating force behind innovations in mattress technology.

All Tempur-Pedic mattresses feature the proprietary TEMPUR® material. Lie down on one of these mattresses, and you’ll feel the top adjust to your weight, shape and today even your temperature. The goal of the material is to provide support and help you achieve the right alignment so that you don’t need to fight against your mattress while you sleep.

TEMPUR® material might sound like memory foam, but it differs dramatically. Memory foam provides some sink and support, but the TEMPUR® material uses its own unique formulation adapted for each type of mattress.

You’ll find four primary collections within the Tempur-Pedic range including:

  • Contour Collection
  • Cloud Collection
  • FLEX Collection
  • ADAPT Series

The Contour and Cloud collections are the oldest and best-established mattress models and include models like the Rhapsody Luxe, Elite, Elite Breeze, and Supreme as well as models such as Prima, Supreme Breeze, Luxe, and Luxe Breeze.

Tempur-Pedic Features

Tempur-Pedic Features

Each collection targets a different type of sleeper. With so many mattresses available, there’s no time to go through each product here. However, some features cross the borders between collections.

All Tempur-Pedic mattresses feature TEMPUR® material that responds to each unique facet of your body to provide the most significant amount of comfort possible. It adapts to your weight, shape, height, and even your body temperature to create a unique sleeping experience.

The TEMPUR® material envelops you to provide a better night sleep, which helps you stay asleep longer. You’ll find that tossing and turning is a thing of the past because the foam takes a load off your pressure points. You won’t subconsciously or consciously readjust during the night, which means you’ll see more prolonged periods of uninterrupted sleep.

Share a bed with someone else? The same foam that relieves pressure from your back, knees, hips, and neck also minimizes motion transfer. Motion transfer occurs on innerspring mattresses when you roll over, and the bed reflects the motion across the mattress.

In other words, it does what it says in the commercials. You should be able to put a glass of wine on one side of the bed and jump up and down on the other side without spilling it.

Almost every Tempur-Pedic also includes some form of cooling system. Some beds, like the TEMPUR-Breeze, received a purposefully cooler design to off-set the foam or target hot sleepers. Other features include the SmartClimate™ System and EasyRefresh™ covers.

Tempur-Pedic Returns And Warranty

All Tempur-Pedic mattresses come with a 10-year limited warranty when purchased from Tempur-Pedic or an authorized retailer. If you find a defect covered by the warranty, you’ll receive a replacement or repair free of charge.  The warranty covers both the mattress and foundation.

Keep in mind that the warranty does not cover aging mattresses or damage caused by improper use, like not using the right bed frame or foundation to support the bed.

Returns aren’t as simple. While Tempur-Pedic offers a 90-day trial period, returns come with a cost. If you choose to exchange or refund your mattress after sleeping on it for 30 days, you’ll need to pay $175 in shipping fees.

Buying from independent retailers may alter the return and trial policy. Different retailers may also add warranties in addition to the Tempur-Pedic 10-year warranty.

Keep your receipt in a safe place to make the most of the warranty.

Tempur-Pedic Lifespan

The average consumer seems to keep their Tempur-Pedic mattress for around eight years. Compared to the competition, the product tends to last about 18% (or more) longer than entry-level competitors and around a year longer than other luxury competitors like Serta, Sealy, and Simmons.

However, it’s worth mentioning that some customers may choose to hang on to their mattress long past when it suits them. The combination of the price and the difficulty of moving or disposing of the bed may extend the lifespan in some cases.

People want to get the most value from their mattress, and if looking for a new luxury mattress (like a new Tempur-Pedic), it may require some financial planning before purchasing.

What Makes Tempur-Pedic Unique?

Tempur-Pedic is often confused with memory foam, but there are structural differences that make Tempur-Pedic unique among memory foam competitors.

First, Tempur-Pedic’s foam is a high-density version, and the density is consistently higher than almost all other foam products on the market.

Tempur-Pedic mattresses feature high-density polyurethane foam cores for structural support with another visco-elastic memory foam on top of it. The manufacturer then laminates the foam together for extra support.

The design differs dramatically from other mattresses, which may include high-density memory foam on the top of a traditional spring mattress. While you still get the support of the single or double layers of foam, you won’t get the full body support you find with a complete foam mattress.

Even among other competitors that use a foam core, other manufacturers often use a lower density foam.

While smaller, lighter people might not notice the difference between lower-density foam and the high-density product Tempur-Pedic uses, larger people do. Taller and heavier people will see the lower density foam wraps around the body without bouncing back to its shape.

The high-density foam contributes to the mattress integrity and quality. All memory foam mattresses fall eventually. However, lower density foam loses its elasticity faster than Tempur-Pedic mattresses, which means you’ll see an irreversible person-shaped depression in a non-Tempur-Pedic mattress faster than a competitor.

While high-density foam often translates to high quality, it is also what makes the mattresses unsuitable for those who don’t want or need vast amounts of support. Tempur-Pedic foams allow a tremendous amount of sink and contouring that those who prefer a firm bed uncomfortable. It also sleeps hotter than a firm mattress regardless of how many cooling technologies the manufacturer inserts into the mattress.

Public Perception Of Tempur-Pedic

Much of the quality of a mattress relies on personal preference, which makes gauging the value of the public perception of a mattress difficult.

Still, Tempur-Pedic is one of the most recognized mattress brands on the market in part due to decades of successful marketing on TV, radio, and print. The company’s advertisements are also generally accurate and rely primarily on facts rather than hyperbole. A wealth of customer reviews also lends to a good perception of the company.

You can sum up the broader public perception as follows: Tempur-Pedic mattresses are some of the most expensive, but if you need the support, they’re worth it.

Still, a few issues crop up that seem to relate more to a poor choice in a mattress than the quality of the bed itself.

People who don’t recommend Tempur-Pedic tend to be those who don’t benefit from the foam support. If you don’t need the foam, you may find that the mattress ultimately hurts your back. Additionally, if you sleep very hot, customer suggest that even the Breeze products leave you in a pool of sweat. You may not realize you sleep hot until you wake up on a Tempur-Pedic mattress, so it’s worth trying out another memory foam mattress before investing in a Tempur-Pedic.

How Temper-Pedic Compares

So, you want a memory foam mattress but aren’t yet sure if the Tempur-Pedic offers enough value for you?

Let’s compare it to other foam mattresses on the market.

Casper mattress

The Casper mattress is a new foam mattress that takes aim at traditional mattress prices to offer a high-quality bed at a lower price.

If you had to choose a Tempur-Pedic mattress to compare with the Casper, it is the Tempurpedic Cloud Supreme Breeze.

The Tempur-Pedic offers 11.5” of foam compared to the 9.5” on the Casper. It also comes with the TEMPUR-Breeze material cover, which is easy to remove and wash and sends moisture away from the body.

Now, the firmness on the Tempur-Pedic Cloud Supreme Breeze is approximately five out of ten, making it far softer than the Casper mattress at six to seven out of ten. Here’s where you begin to see the significant differences in foam. The Tempur-Pedic Cloud Supreme Breeze offers:

  • 2” memory foam
  • 2” memory foam
  • 4” polyfoam
  • 5” polyfoam

On the Casper, you get

  • 5” responsive pol foam
  • 5” memory foam
  • 5” polyfoam
  • 5” support foam

The added layers of memory foam give you an extra 2.5”, which accounts for the extra support found in the Tempur-Pedic mattress.

Now, if you like the feel of memory foam, but it’s not a deal breaker on the mattress, then the Casper might give you what you need for a fraction of the price. If you suffer from aches and pains that keep you up at night, there just might not be enough foam in the Casper mattress to create an excellent value.

Much like the Casper, the Tuft & Needle mattress attempts to provide a quality mattress without the price tag. However, the construction means there are discernable differences.

Once again, the Tempur-Pedic Cloud Supreme-Breeze includes:

  • 2” memory foam
  • 2” memory foam
  • 4” poly foam
  • 5” poly foam

Meanwhile, the Tuft & Needle Original mattress includes:

  • 3” poly foam
  • 7” support foam

There’s only a 1.5” difference between the two mattresses, but it changes the firmness significantly. While the Tempur-Pedic sits a solid five out of ten, the Tuft & Needle comes in at a six or even 6.5 out of ten.

Both come with covers that encourage breathability and are easy to remove when required. However, the Tempur-Pedic tends to sit leaps and bounds above the Tuft & Needle in motion transfer and support. That’s not to say the Tuft & Needle is a poor mattress. Instead, it doesn’t fare as well in comparison.

What We Think

We believe that the Tempur-Pedic is worth the investment among those with injuries, arthritis, or anyone who derives benefits from the excellent support offered by a Tempur-Pedic mattress. Although these mattresses are most expensive than many other quality mattresses, few others stand up to the test.

There are reasons not to buy a Tempur-Pedic. If you like the feel of memory foam but don’t need full body support, then a Tempur-Pedic may not be worth the price. According to some Tempurpedic reviews, it may even hurt your back and leave you sleeping on the couch.

But if you already have a memory foam mattress and feel that you aren’t getting the most from the experience, an upgrade will likely serve you well.
